I made up this recipe for those who DON’T like gefilte fish. People who never like to eat it won’t ask only for seconds but also for thirds so make sure to have extras!
500 g white fish (any type can be also frozen)
1 big white onion
2 parsley roots (just the white root)
1-2 carrots
5 eggs
1 cup matza meal
2-4 table spoons sugar
2 table spoons salt
Allspice
Whole black pepper
2 Bay leafs
Head / other parts of the fish – optional
Let the fish defrost on the counter and blend it in a blender so it has the shape of purée.
Cook the vegetable with allspice and black pepper till very soft, you can eventually cook it with the head or other parts of the fish. Wait until it cools off and then blend the vegetables till smooth.
Mix the pureed fish with the vegetables, add eggs, matza meal, salt, sugar and optionally some extra grounded white pepper.
Fill two medium circular forms with the fish mixture. Fill a deep pan (can be an aluminum pan) with water and put the form with the gefielte fish on the top so it is going to be cooked kind of in a water bath. Place into the oven and cook at 150 degrees for an hour.
When cooking the vegetable you can add extra carrot for final decoration or use just one of the carrots for the filling of the fish.
Serve cold with carrot slices and parsley leaves.
Pesach Sameach (Happy Passover) and Shabbat shalom!
